Design

  • Battery-powered
  • 16 G.B. of built-in storage is free
  • No freestanding mount

The EufyCam 2 Pro is the same size as its 2K base-station-free model, the SoloCam E40. It is one of the largest battery-powered weatherproof home surveillance cameras available, measuring 1.9×1.9×3.9inches / 4.9×4.9x 10.6cm (h x w x d).

The Eufy cameras, just like the SoloCam E40, can be used freestanding. However, it isn’t easy to position the camera in the right place for your room without amount. It can be wall-mounted thanks to a compact screw mount with a ball socket joint and attaches to its back.

The sleek grey and glossy white casings are complemented by the black front, which houses the 140-degree angle lens. You’ll find an LED that glows blue when the camera’s being charged and red when motion is detected. The microphone is located above the camera so that you can speak to anyone within its field of view.

The micro-USB charging port and the screw-mount attachment are located at the rear. A sync button is found on the top of your camera.

The EufyCam 2 Pro kit includes two weatherproof cameras as well as a base station. The base station is compact at just 5.11×3.07×3.07 inches/13×7.8×7.8cm (h x w x d) and offers 16 G.B. local storage for footage captured by the camera. Eufy estimates that this will be enough to store three months’ footage based on twenty events per day, each lasting thirty seconds.

The setup was very easy for us. Simply download the app to your tablet or smartphone and create an account. After creating an account, connect the base station with your router using an Ethernet cable. Next, press the Sync button to pair the two cameras. You can now name your camera using the instructions on the screen.

Performance

eufy performance

  • Clear, detailed footage
  • Night video in black & white
  • The camera lacks a siren

The EufyCam 2 Pro’s video quality is comparable to most high-end security cameras, such as the Arlo Pro 3. You can switch between H.D. 1080p and 2K H.D. The camera has a 140-degree field of view. The camera can be placed 7-10 feet above the ground and view up to 30ft. This allows you to cover large areas of your yard with one camera.

The video clarity is good, with good contrast and realistic colors. Although it is decent, I wish Eufy had gone to 4K resolution like the Arlo Ultra Smart Cam.

One problem with many cameras is that the closer a person is to the camera, the more distorted the image becomes. Faces are sharp and clear within a few feet, with lots of contrast. Beginnings are difficult to see at 10 feet. You can recognize the basic shape of faces, but it’s hard to distinguish individual features.

Eufy added innovative Image Enhancement to solve the problem. The A.I. detects a face and brightens or clears any pixelation to make faces more clearly.

Even though night vision is black and white, I don’t mind that it doesn’t have any color. In very low lighting, the video is crystal clear. The Smart Image Enhancement does not help the camera with nighttime faces. My lighter-skinned subjects were able to see almost all of their facial features.

Like Ring and Arlo’s, some cameras require a subscription fee to store video. This is a terrible idea. I have had enough subscriptions in my lifetime. The EufyCam 2 Pro’s best feature is that you don’t have to pay for video storage. Instead of being stored in the cloud, video footage is saved locally to the HomeBase 2.

Although 16 G.B. is not a lot, it does the job. However, you can delete any videos that you don’t use. Although it will automatically delete any old videos, it is better to manually weed them out so that it doesn’t delete anything you don’t want.

Installation

You can purchase the EufyCam 2 Pro as a single camera (150 USD) or as a 2-pack with two cameras, and the Eufy HomeBase 2 (350 USD). If you don’t have the HomeBase 2, I recommend getting the pack that includes it. The product can only be used with a HomeBase 2. The HomeBase 2, a hub, connects cameras and stores footage. It also acts as a Wifi repeater to increase your Wifi signal so that your cameras receive strong signals.

This is an excellent option if you don’t have the best signal or if there is a lot of distance between your router (and your cameras) and your router. On the other hand, the HomeBase takes up another Ethernet port on the router and another power outlet you may not have.

This camera is easy to install. Magnetic, the 2 Pro can be attached to any metal surface. You can attach a bracket to mount the camera to a bracket using a few screws. It took approximately 10 minutes to mount the camera and five minutes to set it up with Eufy HomeBase and the app. The camera can be blinded by direct sunlight, so consider it when choosing a location.

Battery life

eufy battery life

  • Between charges, the battery can last up to one year
  • Eight hours are required to recharge fully.
  • The battery can’t be removed.

Eufy claims that the 2 Pro battery can last for up to a year before recharging. This figure is based on recording 20 videos per day at 30-second lengths. This ‘typical usage’ figure cannot be confirmed as our testing included heavy camera use for a short time.

The rate at which the battery runs out will depend on how frequently motion is detected, how often the live feed is viewed and how often the speaker and two-way microphone are used.

The Power Manager feature allows you to reduce the length of footage and the frequency of motion detection so that you can prioritize battery life. The battery can’t be swapped, so the 2 Pro won’t be able to charge when needed. The bundled USB cable took eight hours to charge the battery fully.

App

  • It’s easy to navigate
  • Integration with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and HomeKit
  • HomeKit integration isn’t possible at 2K resolution.

Like all EufyCam models, the 2 pro home security camera pairs well with the Eufy Security App. This app is easy to use and displays a list of Eufy security cameras within your home immediately after it launches. Each one includes a snapshot of the latest motion detection.

To view footage from motion detections, tap the snapshot or view a list. You can also access settings like video quality and battery life management. You can also create activity zones to limit the number of notifications that you receive about motion in a specific area.

You can also view past footage in the Events section. If someone created a motion, the camera highlights their face beside the footage. This allows you to see if the intruder caused the alert. You can control the behavior of a camera when you are away or at home with the Security section.

The EufyCam 2 Pro integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This allows you to view Eufy’s live feed from a smart T.V. that has a compatible streaming device. We were disappointed to find that footage from the camera is limited to Full HD when it is integrated with HomeKit.

EufyCam 2 Pro Price and availability

$349.99 / £349

The model costs $349.99 / £349.99 and can be purchased directly from Eufy or Amazon. It’s Eufy’s most expensive home security camera, but it’s still less costly than the Arlo Pro 3, which records in 2K as well. This kit isn’t available in Australia right now.

The EufyCam 2, a less expensive version that records in Full HD, is also available from Eufy. It’ll set you back $299.99 (£299.99).

Conclusion

Eufycam 2 Pro offers both excellent quality and value. Although it has some drawbacks, it is still worth the money. We hope that you can find it useful in this blog post.
