On a tragic Monday morning in Louisville, Kentucky, a 25-year-old bank employee named Connor Sturgeon unleashed terror at his workplace, the Old National Bank. What happened at the Louisville Bank Shooting
The shooting began just after 8:30 a.m., about 30 minutes before the bank was scheduled to open to the public. Some employees attended the meeting in person, while others participated virtually. Rebecca Buchheit-Sims, a manager at the bank, witnessed the horrifying scene unfold on her computer screen as her coworkers were gunned down.
Police arrived at the scene within three minutes of being dispatched and engaged in a shootout with Sturgeon, ultimately killing him. Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey praised the “brave and heroic” actions of the first responders, stating that their quick response undoubtedly saved lives.
Sturgeon had been employed at the bank for over a year but was reportedly notified that he would be terminated. Prior to the attack, he wrote a note to his parents and a friend indicating his intentions to open fire at the bank. The shooting was also livestreamed on Instagram, which has since been taken down. Police are currently in possession of the video.
During a press conference, Interim Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel stated that Sturgeon had broadcasted his attack via a live stream.
“I will say this, that the suspect was live streaming. And unfortunately, that’s tragic. To know that that incident was out there and captured,” she said.
Who are the victims
Four of the victims were employees of the Old National Bank where the incident took place. They have been identified as Joshua Barrick, aged 40; Thomas Elliott, aged 63; Juliana Farmer, aged 45; and James Tutt, aged 64. The fifth victim was the gunman himself, 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, who was also an employee of the bank.
In addition to the five fatalities, nine people were injured during the shooting. Among them was 26-year-old police officer Nickolas Wilt, who was shot in the head while responding to the scene
Wilt had just graduated from the police academy on March 31 and is currently in critical but stable condition after undergoing brain surgery. Three other victims are in critical condition, while three more are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The remaining three injured individuals have been released from the hospital.
Who is Connor Sturgeon
Connor Sturgeon was a 25-year-old man who worked as a syndications associate and portfolio banker at Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky.
He had been with the bank since June 2021 and had previously interned there for three summers. Sturgeon graduated from Floyd Central High School, where he played basketball, and later earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama.

A previous companion and fellow athlete of Sturgeon at Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, referred to Sturgeon as “Mr. Floyd Central” in an interview with The Daily Beast. The individual stated that Sturgeon was intelligent, well-liked, and excelled in sports such as track, football, and basketball during his time in high school.
“I know everyone always says this about shooters but I truly would have never expected it to be him,” the teammate said.
According to him, Sturgeon used to wear a helmet during basketball matches due to experiencing multiple concussions in the past.
The Louisville shooting left four people dead and multiple others injured. The incident has raised concerns about gun control laws and mental health services. The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.
